Financial planners in Northern Ireland have reached out to the local accountant community in a bid to create greater understanding between the two professions.

Accountants made up a significant portion of those attending the latest meeting of the Northern Ireland branch of the Institute of Financial Planning, after local advisers invited them along.

'We did it to let them see that financial planners do know their stuff and have access to very good information,' said David Crozier, certified financial planner at Northern Ireland firm Navigator Financial Planning.

'Unfortunately, they still see us as life insurance salesmen. The RDR gives us a great opportunity to build professionalism, and accountants are largely unaware of that drive - it's a big educational job.'

Those attending the meeting heard David Bowes from business consultants Vantis give his views on share valuations.
